Background
To promote the implementation of the UNESCO Recommendation on HUL, a MoU was signed between WHITRAP Shanghai and CNR-ICVBC in 2013. The specific activity, training in situ project “Historic Urban Landscape: Bridging Cultures – HUL-Bric”, is based on the Agreement signed in September 2015 between CNR (National Research Council of Italy) and WHITRAP Shanghai.
Training project
This second edition of the HUL-BriC training aims to offer a highly qualified and interdisciplinary experience focusing on cultural valorisation and networking of small historic towns for economic and social development. This advanced training course in English is open to a limited group of participants (15 max people) from China, South-EastAsia and Europe. The course is promoted in the context of the partners’ project activities aiming to the dissemination and application of the UNESCO recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape – HUL (2011) in relation to network of small historic towns.
The training is conceived as an intensive 8-day course to be held in the small hill town of Cave (near Rome), Lazio Region, Italy.
The training aims to connect the Italian expertise in enhancement of historical urban sites and landscapes, with innovative start-ups and small entrepreneurship experiences based on cultural resources, traditional artisan crafts, high and low technologies.
A one-day seminar in Rome on the topic of territorial enhancement and innovation will conclude the training. The most meritorious participants will be invited to present their project ideas in the seminar. The seminar proceedings will be published by Lazio Innova.
Objectives
– To provide participants with knowledge on architectural, urban and landscape preservation, territorial networking, sustainable valorisation and management of small historic cities;
– To share knowledge and skills relative to the use of digital and innovative technologies;
– To provide participants with knowledge on the application of the HUL approach for the network development of small historic cities;
– To promote the exchange of experiences and information among participants from different cultures and traditions.
Methodology
The course is divided in two parts: a theoretical training of 5 days and a practical project-oriented studio of 2 days. The theoretical part will be based on lectures, field visits and workshops. The project part will be developed in small groups – with people from different background in each group – to produce a collaborative “en charrette” project. During this phase, participants will develop creative projects based on their own experiences and building on the inputs acquired during the stay in Cave. At the beginning of the course, all participants will be requested to present their own professional experiences, projects and ideas; during the training these projects will be discussed in the context of the local networking needs.
Participants
The international course is designed for a maximum of 15 persons.
Priority is given to:
– Small innovative start-ups and micro-entrepreneurs
– Practitioners, graduated and PhD students in the fields of architecture, planning, and management
Certificate
A CNR-ICVBC and WHITRAP certificate of attendance will be awarded to the participants who satisfactorily attend and complete the course.
Fees
Course Fees: 500 € (bank fees excluded)
Travel, accommodation and living expenses:
Participants will be responsible for their international round trip travel costs to and from the training venue.
In order to cover accommodation and living expenses during the course, participants should plan for a minimum allowance of € 100 per day
